Disabled passengers are on track to reap the most benefits from the upgrade of the station, which includes a new double nylon sleeved handrails to all the new platform stairs.
The mammoth improvement scheme by Network Rail means passengers now have step-free access between the station entrance and all platforms for the first time.
Safety has also been improved with the installation of equality act (formally DDA) compliant double nylon sleeved handrails to the existing concrete footbridge at the station off Pitsea Hall Lane making it easier for passengers to move around.
Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, officially opened the new look station.
“Since its opening in 1855, the station has proudly served Pitsea and I am delighted to see these fantastic improvements that will allow a new generation of passengers to benefit from its services.I’m extremely pleased the residents of Pitsea will reap the rewards of this.

The scheme was part of the Government’s £370million Access for All projects to improve facilities at 148 railway station across the UK – particularly for wheelchair users.
Work on the Pitsea project began in October 2010, but disruption has been kept to a minimum.
