Clear Opening Widths
BS 8300 and Doc M are identical in their requirements concerning clear opening widths of doorways. Clear opening in this context is the space free from any obstruction, including the operating door ironmongery.
BS 8300 recognises also that a door opened beyond 90˚ may, in fact, have a wider ‘clear opening’ than one which is limited to 90˚opening angle. Scottish Standards Part S have similar requirements as illustrated in the table below:
