Overview
Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield, North London underwent a £150 million redevelopment which saw the construction of a new five-storey acute hospital. The new hospital contains an urgent care centre, an inpatient centre, eight theatres, a day surgery, outpatient ambulatory care zone, imaging, diagnostics and supporting facilities.
The contractor contacted Laidlaw to supply automatic doors for the new theatre facilities based on their wealth of experience within the healthcare sector.
The Solution
The contractor approached Laidlaw to specify a solution for the theatre doors. They needed the surgeons to have full control of the doors whilst operating within the theatre. Laidlaw created a bespoke wiring system by integrating the door automation and magnets with the surgeon’s lockdown panel. The system does not allow the doors to open unless the surgeon grants access, yet still allows for exit should an emergency occur.
In total, Laidlaw supplied and installed Orbis 120 automatic swing operators to 14 double doors within the hospital. All doors were leading to or provided direct access to the theatre facilities. The automatic swing doors were fully integrated with access control systems and come with a 120-minute Exova Warrington fire test certification, providing peace of mind should the worst occur. Safety sensors were fitted to the doors, eliminating the possibility of the doors accidentally opening and colliding with users.
